Welcome to my website and my blog! I can't wait to connect with you and learn about what YOU would like from me and this little site I am starting. I've been a dietitian for 7 years but am only new to the social media and blogging space. To be honest, I have resisted this for a while. I like to think of myself more of an observer on social media, mainly just posting cute pictures of my son and my pets. But here I go. So jump on in and join me for what is sure to be a wild ride!
I'd like to start by telling you a bit more about myself. I am a dietitian with a passion for sports nutrition, women's nutrition and diabetes care. Okay okay, so that's the business side. I am also a mom to an almost 1 year old boy, a 5 year old pup, and 6 year old orange kitty (I specify because we all know there is something special about those orange cats). I grew up in Perth, Ontario. A small town an hour outside of Ottawa with lots of picturesque old timey buildings. It's one of those towns that looks like a Hallmark movie set. I was a kid with lots of interests. Karate, swimming, running, playing piano, showing dogs...oh and school.
In high school, I became more competitive in swimming and running. I started getting the wrong information from the wrong sources about how nutrition could help with my sport endeavours. I was training hard enough that I still saw improvements but I ended up exhausted, plateaued in my progress and losing weight. As a teenager, you figure that weight loss is fine and dandy, and it became all too easy to get caught up in it.
As high school was coming to an end, and it came time to figure out what I wanted to do, I couldn't decide. I had planned for a long time to go to veterinary school but you see, I became pretty focused on nutrition and thought maybe my career was in that direction. So, I went to the University of Prince Edward Island because they had both programs - nutrition and a vet college (and a swim team). When I started learning a bit more about nutrition and applying it to my swimming I started to see results. I gained back some weight, lots of muscle. My strength and endurance improved and so did my times. With that, it didn't take long for me to decide which direction I wanted to go.
So here we are. A few years and several big life changes later, I am taking the leap to start my own private practice. My goal: help as many people as I can. I want to teach you how to use nutrition to optimize your physical and mental health. And if I am super duper lucky, those of you who are sports enthusiasts will trust me to help you with your sport goals as well.
So if you would like to meet with me head on over to my booking page. You can also follow along on my journey here and on my social media platforms (links below for Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn).
